A pulse pounding, non-stop, action packed, thrill ride from the very beginning. OK so it’s nothing new, but it sure was entertaining.

I was excited for the premise of this film way back when all the cinema dates were showing this film coming out in August. Then imagine how annoyed I was to find out it wasn’t out until the tail end of November. But in my opinion it was worth the wait.
When Andre Davis was a child, his father, a cop, was killed in the line of duty. Now as an adult, he works for the NYPD and has a higher then average kill record. That night, in a drug score gone wrong 8 cops are murdered and it’s Andre that they bring in, along with Narcotics Detective Frankie Burns, to chase then men down before they can leave Manhattan and disappear forever. His solution? Lock down the island. Close the bridges, the tunnels, the rivers, the subways, and flush them out of hiding.
This film had some truly spectacular section sequences. In particular, the gun fights and on-foot chase scenes were amazing to watch on the big screen. And we know, from his work with Marvel Studios, that Chadwick Boseman can deliver a dramatic line like nobody’s business and there are some moments in this film where he does just that. With his monologue that ends with the line “We flood the island with blue.” Being very reminiscent of a similar monologue in Avengers: Infinity War, that ends “Get this man a shield.”
Is there anything ground breaking or new at all in this movie? No not really. But I am not of the mind that all films need to be ground breaking. Sometimes a film can just be entertaining in it’s own right and to me that is ’21 Bridges’. At its heart it is a highly entertaining action film, that will appeal to lovers of the genre, of which I am one. If you want something earth shattering you won’t find it here. If you want to watch stuff get shot to hell, and see a couple good gun fights and car chases, then this will be right up your alley.
21 bridges is in UK Cinemas now!
