Four years after South Korea’s total decimation, Jung-seok, a soldier who previously escaped the diseased wasteland, relives the horror when assigned to a covert operation with two simple objectives: retrieve and survive. When his team unexpectedly stumbles upon survivors, their lives will depend on whether the best — or worst — of human nature prevails in the direst of circumstances. – From IMDB
Back in 2016, ‘Train to Busan’ was heralded as one of the best Zombie movies of the last 10 Years:
“…really, the result is first-class throughout. B+” – Entertainment Weekly
“…this superb South Korean action horror delivers tense, nerve-shredding excitement in spades.” – Radio Times
Now both Writer and Director are back with a second offering that takes place 4 Years Later. I am not going to lie, I am a huge fan of zombie films. Even (and perhaps especially) the bad ones. So I don’t think I could be that disappointed by any zombie film. But sequels to great horror films often end up a little less then spectacular. There is always a drive to up the stakes and up the gore and up the scares. From the trailer it is pretty clear that the chaotic violence is still going to be prevalent here, but as well as zombies, we are going to be treated to some of the horrors that just normal humans can inflict on each other.
Dong-Won Gang also returns as Jung-Seok, a soldier who survived the first film. A good way to tie the two films together is to bring back a previous character, but can also sometimes lead to wild character development, as there is pressure to do something new with the character. I am happy he returns but I hope he doesn’t get the ‘Resident Evil’ treatment, and end up as just a mascot for the series, slowly getting more and more ridiculous of a character.
From the snippets we see of the film above, I am excited to see what has become of the world and how people have adapted, it is always a fun element of apocalypse films, I just hope they can write a story good enough to warrant the sequel.
Are you excited for this sequel?
