Most Anticipated August (2020) Releases (Hurray!)

Cinemas here in the UK have been given the OK to reopen from Friday 31st July. After being closed for just over four months, there are no words to explain how excited I am to get back in the cinema.

So a small disclaimer before we start, there dates are accurate at the time that I am writing this, but I think we are all aware at this point that release dates can change from day to day. And there are a lot less new releases than usual, but at this exact moments in time, these are the films that I am most excited to see this August.

Tenet (August 26th – European Release)

This has to be one of the most anticipated films of the year. And all the drama around it’s release just serving to raise the hype about it. In true Nolan style the plot is basically indescribable, and the cast is pretty stacked. Despite the fact the poster looks like a Hugo Boss advert, I am still super excited to finally see this one.

Black Water Abyss (August 7th)

This is basically 47 meters down, but with Crocodiles, which is no surprise as this film has the same producer. A group of friends are exploring an underground cave system and get trapped by a hungry crocodile. This is going to be so cheesy and so cliched, but I am hoping for a ‘so bad it’s good’ kinds thing.

The New Mutants (August 28th – Finally)

OK, this time it is looking like this might actually happen. After a LOT of delays, this month it is looking like we will actually get to see this film. It looks a lot darker than your average teen superhero film and has a pretty awesome looking cast. I have been anticipating this film for a long time and am excited that I may actually get to see it soon.

Project Power (August 14th – Netflix)

Another new take on the superhero genre, this film focusses on a pill that you can take that will give you superpowers, the catch is that you don’t know what the powers will be. This sounds fantastic. Netflix have put out a few great films recently, so I am tentatively excited for this one.

These are the four films I am most excited to see this month. There are a handful of other new releases coming out this month, but none that I have really strong opinions about. And my local Cineworld are doing a bunch of re-releases that I didn’t think it was fair to include on this list because how could anything compare to the might of ‘The Empire Strikes Back?’

What films are you excited to see this month? Are you happy returning to the cinema at all or do you think it is too soon for them to be opening? Leave a comment and let me know.
