After an Infinity Stone powered Ultron begins his assault on the Multiverse, the watcher is forced to assemble a group of heroes from across multiple universes to stop him destroying all life.

This was the ending that I was holding out for. I hoped the whole way through that there would be some way that all of the stories we have seen would crossover, and this episode finally delivers on that hope. It helps to give an end to a lot of the stories that seemed to end too abruptly, and serves as a tense and nail-biting finale to the series.

There are so many call backs to earlier films in the MCU; Winter Soldier, Avengers Assemble, Infinity War, Endgame, it’s a real treat for avid fans of the franchise. And seeing all these new imaginations of our heroes interact with each other is a real treat as well. I still say that ‘Party Thor’ is a joke taken a little too far. His endless jokes, quips and frat-boy antics throughout this episode did get a little tiresome, and the humour didn’t always fit the direness of the situation the characters found themselves in, but I guess it is the MCU way to have a little comic relief in there.

I am a little disappointed that The Watcher didn’t have more to do in this episode, after last week, I assumed he would be a major player in this weeks story, but that was clearly not to be. But that may change during series two perhaps? Now that he has interfered once, I imagine it won’t take much for him to do it again.

Hang about until the end of the credits of course as we do get a post credit scene, with a hint towards what one of the episodes may be next season. It’s doesn’t have a huge impact on any of the events of this episode, but it made me happy none the less. Overall a pretty solid end to a show that for me had a few ups and downs. I am glad they were finally able to deliver in the end.

The full first season of What If…? is now streaming on Disney+
